Caretaker Program

Hamilton Down Youth Camp has introduced a new Caretaker program with four 'Grey Nomad' couples being employed on twelve week term contracts each year. Chairman Ren Kelly said, 'In the past the camp has had a number of caretakers who have been employed for various lengths of time and the Management committee found that the level of enthusiasm and interest in the job waned after about three months". With the 'Grey Nomads' program we have been able to accomplished much of the work that has been identified to ensure the camp meets the expectations of our guests and sets in place the foundations for future developments".

2009 - 2010 New Caretakers

The last roster of Grey Nomads for 2009 saw the return of Jim and Marie Matthews. Jim and Marie were the first Grey Nomads to be employed by the Camp in 2008 and it was with a great deal of pleasure that the Management committee welcomed them back. Jim and Marie started the Summer Spruce up with a very long list that included the refurbishment of the Kitchen - the pictures above tell that story, replacement of fly wire on the bunkhouse, lots of new paving and rock work and renos on the gardens. Jim and Marie have again done a fantastic job and we hope they will return in the future. They are currently taking it easy at Cania Gorge Big 4 Caravan Park, in Queensland...Just fixing a few bathrooms!!

Paul and Marie have taken over the reigns at the camp and Paul has already made friends with the various paint tins and brushes as he works on the painting of the ablution block.
